♥ Happy Birthday, Vee! ♥

It has been such a pleasure getting to know you. Your comments, your writing and most of all your friendship are a real source of joy for me and I wish you a truly happy year ahead. ♥ ♥ ♥

(A while ago you made this post - and later mentioned your hope that it would inspire some fic from someone. You may not have been hoping for something quite as silly as this, but....

Someone sent me a brain in a jar! It came with the most totally gorgeous snippet of Fraser practising being lazy - but all in a very worthwhile cause!

I was very smiley and happy when I read it and you will be too.
♥ ♥ ♥ and to my anonymous gift-giver!

*I've been podficced! The ever lovely

[personal profile] vsee has made a recording of a story I wrote for [community profile] ds_flashfictionlast year - Five Times Ray Kowalski Tried To Make Someone Feel At Home (Even If It Didn't Always Work).  It's such an honour and a thrill to hear Vee's beautiful, gentle voice read something I wrote and I couldn't stop smiling with JOY as I listened to it. *hearts Vee*

*I betaed for the first time this week.  I was a little nervous about not having done it before but I really enjoyed being thinky about  [personal profile] akamine_chan's fantastic story Spiders From Mars - and having a sneak preview of it! The fact that it also hit my space kink and my competent!Ray kink was just a bonus really... *hearts aka*

*We had an 'if you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours' rule in my class today.  *hearts my smiling class*

*The biography of Michael Collins I ordered arrived today.  He may not have actually walked on the moon but I reckon he's still way cooler than Neil or Buzz..   I mean, he claims to be a veteran member of Athletics Anonymous - 'that stellar organisation which, when you feel the urge to exercise, will send someone over to drink with you until you return to your senses.' *hearts Michael Collins*

ETA - I can't work out how not to have that annoying space in the top line - but I'm refusing to let it squash my joy!

ETA 2 - I've just received an lj gift certificate but I don't know who from! I can only assume it's from one of my dear flist, so thank you very very much - whoever you are!  [personal profile] j_s_cavalcante !

Just to try and collect everything in one place, I'm posting links to two fics I've written recently - for [livejournal.com profile] nolimbs4u , the birthday com for the splendid [livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9 and [livejournal.com profile] ds_con_envy . They are dark tales of woe and despair...hang on, that's not right!

Ray Lends A Hand...And A Leg...Or Two was written for nos....so it features artificial limbs. Obviously.

[livejournal.com profile] hyperfocused gave me the prompt "It doesn't taste anything like chicken!" for con_envy which inspired You Are What You Eat - another day in the squadroom for Fraser, Ray and Dief.

The library van came to school this afternoon.  I never get long and always have to choose my books in a bit of a rush (sometimes it would be so useful if you really could judge a book by its cover).  This afternoon, however, one particular title caught my eye.

This term, my class library book box will include a copy of Dolphin Boy!

It's a year today since I de-lurked and set up my lj. Being rather a shy person I was quite nervous - will this be another area for me to feel socially awkward? - but I'm so glad I did it even if I still flounder a bit from time to time. I'd like to thank you all for your news, stories, photos, lists, podfic, comments and everything else that's made my first year here so enjoyable. To mark this day, I've learnt how to make you some little hearts.  Here they are!

I’m not generally a loyal listener to any particular radio station when I drive and this morning, when I was flicking through the radio channels to see what was on, I heard the due South theme! It was being played as part of a TV theme quiz on a local station and the dj gave a clue that this was “a 90’s cuddly TV series from the States”.  I rolled my metaphorical eyes – I needed to keep my actual eyes on the road – and then he went straight to an ad break which started appropriately enough with “Are you looking for romance?” It made me smile despite the traffic jam.

Title: Tea For One For Two
Fandom and Pairing: due South - F/K
Rating: S for Schmoopy....?
Length: 299 words
Prompt: steam
Warnings: see rating
Author’s Notes: Will there ever come a time when the discussion about kettles on [personal profile] kill_claudio's lj won't be useful? I don't think so...

leafy: (ds1)
I went to the garden centre to buy my Christmas tree and I chose a Fraser fir. (Hurray!)  While she was netting it for me, the garden centre lady told me that the trees had arrived in the dark, but she could tell they were Frasers straight away because they were bent and "Frasers are like that." (Double Hurray!)

So, at school today, I managed to get myself locked into - of all places - the new accessible toilet!  I gave the door a few good charges but that only made my arm and elbow all bruised and swollen.  Luckily someone heard me banging on the door (above the noise of the builders) and was able to open it  from the outside.  When I went past later, half the door handle was missing and the doorway was coned off.  I seem to have left the accessible toilet.....inaccessible.

Something has definitely gone wrong with my fridge.  The temperature inside is 18 and a half degrees.  That's not just warmer than "10 put a sweater on", it's very nearly "20 is nice"!
